Welcome back to Columbia! While returning to school once again may be a challenge for many of us, we look forward to a year of growth in ourselves and in our work.
Coming into 2017, we recognize this year as a time of change—exciting for some, terrifying for many—and we hope you will join us on our collective journey. As the blog of Columbia Crown & Cross, Crosswords is a place where we hope to facilitate conversation about Christian thought on our campus. We envision our work as a platform for people of diverse backgrounds to engage with Christianity in new and enlightening ways. We hope to produce lively discussions with our readers where we can recognize our similarities, differences, and points of contact. In a climate where mutual love and encouragement can sometimes feel absent, we should remember Paul’s words in the book of Romans:
Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads, with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness 1.
Let us enjoy each other’s gifts and serve our communities as we move forward. At Crown & Cross we are excited for this semester and hope you will stay tuned for weekly blog posts by student writers on a range of faith-related topics. If you are interested in joining us and writing for Crown & Cross, please contact the team at email@example.com or get in touch with any of our board members. As students at Columbia, we have the unique opportunity to supplement our education with experiences in a bustling, vibrant, complicated city and we look forward to sharing those experiences with you. Keep an eye out for us this semester as we hope to produce material that will challenge you intellectually and continue to bring you back week after week. We invite you to join our discussions, share, and comment on our pieces. Let us shape our varied conversations together this semester.
